Small Ideas Freshers Party w/Algiers, Drenge & Killington Fall

The Harley, Sheffield
Wednesday September 21

£2OTD

Event page, here.

To kick off the year, ace Sheffield alt music promoters Small Ideas are putting on a night of fun and shit in the form of 4 bands; Sheffield outfit Algiers, who are made up of ex-members of Dartz and The Maple State, lo-fi maestros Drenge, loud and brilliant post-math types Killington Fall, and us. It’s only £2 entry, and with Small Ideas DJs commanding the decks until very late, it promises to be a class night. Plus there’s talk of mix CD swapping, free compilation CD acquiring (which will feature our track “The Feeling” among other great bands) and vintage video game playing, FUCK YEAH.

Cult Image/RETRIEVER 7” Split Single

The vinyl is here, and officially released! You can buy it now from our bandcamp, and from us at gigs/in person. We thoroughly enjoyed our single launch at The Cluny 2, and would like to thank the truly sublime Waskerly Way who opened up a very enjoyable night. Photos from the night will be posted soon. LOVE.

T-SHIRTS

Here are our limited edition t-shirts, which you can buy from us at gigs or email and we can post them. However there’s only 30 so be quick! That’s assuming people want them, which is most likely misguided. They’re £7.50, available in S, M, L and XL. Or we’re doing a special £10 deal for a record and a t shirt, plus a badge thrown in there.

SORRY THESE ARE NOW SOLD OUT!

"

The polar opposite of its single mate in every aspect except mighty, mighty coolness, ‘Little Black Cloud’, is a joyous piece of eighties inspired indie done in an imitably Northern sort of way. It’s got the jangle, echoic melodies and perky danceable riffs that recall the simplistic pop tones of Frankie & The Heartstrings, and all the singalong ability to go with it. You can’t really ask more from a modern indie-pop tune; it’s breezy, it’s clever, and it makes you want to toss your head from side to side like a berk. Lovely stuff. 4/5

   Manifesto Magazine - September/October 2011

w/Spectrals & Fantasy Rainbow

The Cumberland Arms, Newcastle
Friday October 14
£6adv, buy tickets here and from RPM and Beatdown Records

Event page, here.

21 year old Louis Jones (Spectrals) has signed to Wichita Records for the release of his debut album “Bad Penny” which is due for release on 17th October, so is touring to celebrate. Spectrals play brilliantly lo-fi surf pop, and I’ve got no qualms that it will come across as well live as it does on record. Finishing off the bill are the mellow and great Fantasy Rainbow, here is their bandcamp. We’ve also never played at The Cumberland Arms, so we’re stoked!

Spectrals - “Leave Me Be”

Spectrals - “Rot With Me”

Cult Image/RETRIEVER 7” Split Single - SPL005

Here is our first official release, a split 7” with our good friends RETRIEVER, on heavyweight vinyl! Artwork by Church House, released through Splash One Records.

The 7” features our track “Little Black Cloud” and “Arms Out Wide” by RETRIEVER, which you can currently pre-order for a measly £4 from our bandcamp. Included with the pre-order are downloads of the above two tracks plus 2 bonus tracks, “The Feeling” (Cult Image) and “The Engine (Young Liar Remix)” (RETRIEVER).
Released 10th September 2011, Edition of 500. (Click here for info on the single launch)

w/The Neat & Saigon Tiger

The Other Rooms, Newcastle
Friday October 28
£6adv

Event page, here.

Hailing from Hull, The Neat play post-punk influenced pop, which is right up our street. Their single “In Youth Is Pleasure” sounds like The Fall and is ridiculously infectious, and after seeing them in Sheffield it’s safe to say they’re an amazing live band. Having recently featured on the latest Rough Trade Counter Culture compilation it’s onwards and upwards for these guys, make sure you get down!

The Neat - “In Youth Is Pleasure”

The Neat - “Hips”

LME/Architecture - w/Mazes & Milk Maid

The Dog and Parrot, Newcastle
Friday October 7
£5adv tickets, more on the door. Buy tickets here and from RPM Records.

Event page, here.

Mazes are effortless. Formed in Manchester but bringing the laid back swagger of Californian slackers, they produce the perfect mix of honey sweet pop songs with distorted lo-fi guitars and hooky vocal riffs. BBC 6 Music described them as a “sort of really garagey Kinks”, which I mean, sound’s pretty awesome. Plus, we’ve seen them, and we agree, they’re awesome. Support comes from Milk Maid, who we can’t wait to see, and, well…US.

Mazes - “Summer Hits”

Milk Maid - “Not Me”

w/Male Bonding, The History Of Apple Pie & Young Liar

The Other Rooms, Newcastle
Friday September 30
£6adv tickets, more on the door. Buy tickets here.
8pm doors.

Event page, here.

We’re all massive fans of London band Male Bonding’s debut album ‘Nothing Hurts’, and after the sell-out show last time they ventured up North we’re excited to be playing with them as they tour their new album ‘Endless Now’. Also playing are The History Of Apple Pie and the class Young Liar. Also included is free entry to JUKEBOX clubnight afterwards. What’s not to love. Here is a recent live video and some other things to listen to!

Saturday 10th September sees the release of our split 7” with RETREIVER and to celebrate we’re having a launch at The Cluny 2 with both of us playing, plus a couple of special guests which we will announce in due course. We have some nice things planned for it, so DON’T MISS. Until then, you can pre-order the single here.

UPDATE: We are pissing excited to announce our special guest will be lo-fi chillwave maestro Waskerley Way, who’s had a lot of good press, and is superb.

…wistful, fuzzily melodic sample-based bedroom jams” - Gorilla Vs. Bear

…full of dreamy, cloud-surfing melodies” - The FADER

…dazzling… wide-eyed, self-aware electronica, putting a British, fanfare-strewn spin on the recent work of Stateside favourites like Memory Tapes and Washed Out” - This is Fake DIY

I want to say it is ‘crappy’ but also say it is ‘amazing’ [via pop sensibilities]. Wonder if this would be a ‘song of the year’ if it was actually by Ariel Pink” - Hipster Runoff

Waskerley Way - “Cat Alert”
